The Minnesota Iceman is a popular episode in Bigfootery. In the 1960s, people in the West were cynical of direct evidence of a bipedal species other than their own version of human. Noted author of the day, Ivan T. Sanderson made it a personal mission to try to change that perception. His view was if the West doesn’t figure out the archaic anomaly known as the Minnesota Iceman before the Russians, they would use it as propaganda to offend our understandings of Darwinian evolution as well as American religious sensibilities. People’s values at that time didn’t like that and the Soviet Union knew it all too well.
The sentiment got a round of applause on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1968.
